
After the completion of the channel tunnel or chunnel 2 different companies were set up. One to carry passenger trains from Waterloo to Paris and Brussels and the other to carry cars and container traffic between Folkestone and Calais.
Eurostar offers fast and frequent train services between London and Paris and London and Brussels. Eurostar also stops at Ashford international station and Lille for oneward journeys. Direct destinations in France for Eurostar are Lille, Paris, Disneyland Europe (Marne la Valle Chessy station), and the ski resort of Bourg St Moritz. You can also book onward destinations via Thalys, TGV, and standard SNCF services via the Eurostar website. Eurostar also travels direct between London Waterloo and Brussels.
Eurotunnel run vehicle carrying trains under the English channel between Folkestone and Calais. The journey under the channel takes approximately 35 minutes and is much quicker than ferry when you take into account the time it takes to drive on and off the train. Once at Calais you are straight onto the French autoroute system.
